Purpose of the Sustainability Policy

To outline our approach to becoming a more sustainable company. We will constantly draw upon the fundamentals that drive us forward:

  • Achieve zero incidents and zero harm
  • Minimize environmental impact across our operations and value chain
  • Become net zero in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050
  • Operate in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations and international standards
  • Promote ethical conduct, human rights and responsible business practices
  • Create long-term value for people, planet and profit

The policy provides a global framework to guide decision-making, performance monitoring and continuous improvement. It is reviewed at least every three years, or whenever significant organizational changes occur.

Core sustainability principles

This policy is aligned with the Stolt-Nielsen Limited sustainability objectives and is supplemented by a specific set of core sustainability principles outlined below:

Zero incidents and safety leadership

Health and safety remain our highest priority. We are committed to our Zero Incidents goal and to maintaining the highest safety standards and industry best practices.

We will:

  • Conduct business in compliance with international and local laws and regulations
  • Maintain procedures and management systems to prevent incidents, injuries and exposure to substances of concern and substances of (very) high concern
  • Monitor safety performance through key metrics such as Total Recordable Case Frequency (TRCF) and Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF)
  • Ensure 100% compliant filling grade for transporting ISO Tank Containers
  • Conduct risk assessments and internal audits to identify, control and limit potential risks
  • Empower employees through our Stop Work Authority program to halt any unsafe activity

Climate action and net zero ambition

We are committed to becoming net zero in GHG emissions by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement (1.5°C pathway) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action).

To achieve this, we will:

  • Improve operational energy efficiency at our depots
  • Increase the use of renewable energy and biofuels
  • Offer low-carbon transport solutions through optimized routing, intermodal transportation, low-carbon fuels and carbon insetting solutions
  • Implement emergency response and business continuity plans at applicable depots to adapt to extreme weather events

We work closely with customers and suppliers to reduce both our own and our customers’ supply chain emissions.

Circularity, waste and waste management

In line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), we are committed to reducing waste and water consumption and advancing circular practices.

We will:

  • Reuse water and treat wastewater responsibly
  • Minimize solid waste through operational efficiency and recycling
  • Prohibit deep-well injection for waste disposal
  • Utilize ISO Tank Containers that are reusable over an approximately 20-year lifespan and 90% recyclable at end of life
  • Not facilitate transport using flexibags to prevent unnecessary plastic waste generation

Through these actions, we support a more circular and resource-efficient logistics model.

Zero pollution and environmental protection

We are committed to zero pollution and zero spills.

We maintain procedures and management systems to mitigate, prevent and control pollution of soil, air, water and sea. We also:

  • Work with best-in-class suppliers investing in the newest generation of engines and best available technologies (BAT) to reduce air pollution
  • Monitor environmental performance and continuously improve our operational controls

Protecting the environment is fundamental to our license to operate and long-term success.
