Stolt Tank Containers (STC) is celebrating three years of using green power at our Moerdijk depot in the Netherlands. By using renewable electricity and fuels alongside improving the sustainability of our operations, the depot has reduced its Scope 2 carbon emissions by 39.5% and Scope 1 emissions by 4.5% since 2021.
By fueling our terminal tractors and lift trucks with renewable diesel, we’ve saved 253 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), resulting in an 88% reduction in the last three years. Using wind power for electricity has reduced CO2e emissions by 100% – a saving of 696 metric tonnes since 2021. As a result of conducting our operations in a more sustainable way, 99.71% less CO2e is now emitted per tank container handled.
“It’s a proud moment,” says Dennis Verduyn, Global Depots Director, “and it’s a reminder that at STC depots, we don’t just meet standards – we define them. We have been pioneering improvements and innovations to deliver even better, more safe and sustainable services to our customers.”
STC Moerdijk depot has long been at the forefront of sustainable depot innovations. It is continuously innovating its operations, including cleaning processes to recycle water and energy and minimising the need for additives and detergents. This results in significantly less waste, lower costs, and a more planet-friendly tank- cleaning operation.
STC is committed to using 50% renewable energy at our fully-owned depots by 2030. Since we switched to using green electricity and fuels at Moerdijk, we’ve also started using green energy at our depots in Houston (US), SPS Mumbai (India), and Kaosiung (Taiwan).
