Before every new load, our tank containers go through a full fitness check.

Not occasionally. Not on a rolling maintenance schedule. Every single time, before every cargo.

It is one of those things that seems obvious when you say it out loud. Of course reusable equipment carrying hazardous or sensitive liquids should be inspected before each use. And yet it is one of the most important distinctions between a specialist tank container operator and a general freight provider.

 What the inspection covers

Before a tank container is approved to receive a new cargo, our teams work through a structured pre-load check. This covers structural integrity, confirming the vessel and frame are free from damage, as well as valve function, seal condition and the performance of any heating or venting systems fitted to the tank. If something is not right, the tank does not move.

This process is not only about protecting the next customer's cargo, though that is clearly central. It also protects the people who handle the equipment, the environments it passes through and the reputation of everyone in the supply chain.

Why this matters for shippers

For procurement and logistics professionals managing chemical or food-grade shipments, the pre-load inspection process of your operator is worth understanding.
Asking how tanks are assessed before loading, what is checked and by whom, and how non-conformances are handled are sensible questions that good operators should be able to answer clearly.

At Stolt Tank Containers, that process is documented, consistent and applied to every tank in our fleet of more than 55,000 containers worldwide.
